Special Economic Zones
From GovernIndia
For the purpose of increasing foreign investment and to promote exports from the country, the Government of India had announced the introduction of a Special Economic Zones (SEZ) policy in April 2000. Companies and industrial units set up within these zones receive special treatment with respect to taxes, duties and tariffs. There are over 200 SEZs in India. SEZ policy falls under the purview of the Department of Commerce of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
