The Office of the Director General of Civil Aviation is a regulatory authority of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The primary concern of the Authority is safety in Civil Aviation in India. It is also responsible for regulation of air transport services to/from/within India and for enforcement of civil air regulations, air safety and airworthiness standards.
Functions
The Functions of the DGCA include registration of civil aircraft, formulation of airworthiness standards and issue of airworthiness certificates and licensing of pilots and other staff, amongst several other functions. A complete list of functions may be found on their website.
For the discharge of various functions, there are several smaller Directorates within the DGCA, such as the Aerodrome Standards Directorate, the Air Safety Directorate, Flight Inspection Directorate, etc.

The DGCA maintains current statistics about the various national carriers. Statistics like cancellation rate, on-time performance, market share are available on a monthly basis from their website.
