Agriculture
From GovernIndia
Growth rates of production of food grains and other agricultural produce has been terribly slow over the last 55 years. The 11th 5-year plan states that food grain production has risen from 51 million tonnes in 1950-51 to only 217 million tonnes in 2006-07, i.e., an annual growth rate of about 2.5%. Similarly, over the same period, production of oil seeds, sugarcane and cotton have also risen by a factor of 4 - again a growth rate of only about 2.5%[1]
